Threshold Consciousness:
A Site Plan
Audio Guide, ca. 20 min, 2023
Threshold Consciousness: A Site Plan is an audio guide focusing on a modular building called Rakete in Basel. The building is in a former industrial area that is currently transitioning into mixed-use space.
The work leads the audience through the building, allowing them to exlore its unique architecture and experience different sounds that are sometimes activated through touch or movement. It further integrates intimate narratives about dreaming and being awake that link the space to threshold consciousness - a mental state of someone who is moving towards sleep or wakefulness but who has not yet completed that transition.
Threshold Consciousness: A Site Plan builds from The Listening Academy Basel, a summer school at the FHNW Institute of Experimental Design and Media Cultures focusing on listening as a relational act and led by Brandon LaBelle and Budhaditya Chattopadhyay.
It can be accessed by using a mobile device and if possible headsets.
