LEARNING TO LOVE ME
Performance, 1 hour / Installation, 2005
In Learning to Love Me the gallery space was divided into two sections.
The first one – open to the public – displayed five light boxes featuring black and white photographs, portraits of the artist interacting with herself. The second one, available only to the artist and located behind the walls with the light boxes, included a live performance, which the audience could only hear.
The performance involved sounds such as breathing, the breaking of glass, and energetically knocking on the walls, as well as various vocals that were created on the spot. It also showed the artist at times peeking or showing her fingers through the few small holes on the floor. All this went hand in hand with the narrative created in the photographs and acted as an introduction to and completion of the audience’s experience.
