THE CIRCLE
Public Performances, 30 min - 4 h, 2003
The Circle was a series of public performances held in Exeter, London, and Edinburgh (UK).
By repeatedly drawing and standing in a circle at different locations – the main shopping street, a public square, a bus station, Chinatown, a graveyard, or a park – the artist marked and defined the size of her personal space, challenging others to step in or stay away.
Sometimes she blended into the surroundings, and at other times she became the main attraction.
The piece explored themes such as (self-)alienation, isolation, integration, and public-private space. It was documented with photography.
