What happens when we close our eyes?

Where does our voice travel when we release it? What does it feel like when our feet touch different surfaces? What kind of memories do we create? What is home? Who else lives there? How do we use unusable spaces? Is there potential for more in the ones we use every day?

Today, I took an exploratory walk around the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts building with students from BA programmes in design and art, to address these questions. The building is situated in the former Viscose area of Emmenbrücke, a former industrial complex being redeveloped into a residential, educational, and leisure area.

During our visit to various locations, we played, observed, listened, reflected, and engaged in discussions. Many interesting ideas emerged about how these spaces could be reactivated or transformed into more playful, inclusive, and sustainable environments. The goal was to integrate artistic research and embodied knowledge into design and art practice.

This initiative was part of the MOVING THE PUBLIC project at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, which was led by Isabella Pasqualini and Christoph Zellweger.
